Guillaume Dustan, Nous (love no end), [Us (love no end)], 2000
US video premiere
Friday, June 27, 8pm – midnight, on loop
On Friday, June 27 from 8pm - midnight, on loop, PARTICIPANT INC presents the US premiere of Guillaume Dustan, Nous (love no end) [Us (love no end)], 2000. Well-known as a writer, Dustan’s lesser-known video work, Nous (love no end), is one of nineteen works filmed by the artist on mini DV between 2000 and 2004 that have recently become available to view.
This work serves as a preview for the exhibition of Dustan’s full filmic oeuvre The films of Guillaume Dustan (2000-2004) curated by Julien Laugier, Pascaline Morincôme, and Olga Rozenblum which is currently planning its tour to the United States in 2026.
As an HIV+ artist living and working in Western cosmopolitan city post-antiretroviral therapy, Dustan is presented as a contemporary of Chloe Dzubilo, and this work is presented beside hers in order to corroborate and add concurrent layers to the stories in her drawings.
Nous (love no end), a romantic film with Tristan in Geneva. (Dustan in Premier essai, 2005)
Probably his first film, he tries out the potential of an editing-while-filming technique. He is given his camera, “it only records when I press on the button,” he puts it down opposite where he’s standing and he dances naked, straight off, to Prince, The greatest romance ever sold.
Nous (love no end) and Nous 2, along with Pietà and Ratés, make up the Series of Tristan. Three films were shot in Switzerland, at his lover Tristan’s home, and one on the road. They’re made as a way of doing good to oneself, “like an antiseptic, it’s like love acupuncture, so that I can love again, live again… waaah, waaah…” These trips far away from Paris are moments of calm.
